How we approach sustainability

Building a stronger tomorrow for people and planet is at the heart of everything we do.

A cleaner alternative to existing raw materials

The mining of precious metals for use in sensor technologies often have a significant environmental impact. Mining of gold, a material used in Point-of-Care diagnostic testing, accounts for over 100 million metric tonnes of CO2-e annually, equivalent to more than double the emissions produced in Portugal in 2021. It also leads to the loss of land and long-term impacts on biodiversity and local communities.

In biosensor applications, replacing gold electrodes with Gii delivers a direct saving of 0.5KG* CO2e per sensor. Therefore, for the approximately 100,000 sensors manufactured this year using Gii, there has been a saving of 50,000 kg CO2e. This is equivalent to driving around the world in a car four times.

A diverse team leading the next generation of advanced materials

We are a diverse and international team who firmly believe that diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and ideas are the key to unlocking innovation, creativity and performance.

We have specific recruitment and talent progression strategies that are targeted on further maximising applications from underrepresented communities in the science, technology, engineering, and manufacturing (STEM) sector, and we are continuously working to improve our processes and policies.
